Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) is responsible for the development, management and maintenance of a countrywide Polish National Research and Educational Network PIONIER.

PIONIER network connects 21 MANs in Poland with 10 Gb/s links based on Gigabit Ethernet technology. It offers the access to the pan-European research network GEANT, access to the worldwide Internet as well as advanced network services: IP multicast, IPv6 transmission, guaranteed bandwidth services and VPNs. Additionally PIONIER provides the broadband connectivity to 5 HPC/HPV centers in Poland

Other goals of PSNC concentrates on the following activities:

1.Operator of the Poznan Metropolitan Area Network POZMAN

2.Provider of HPC and HPV services,

3.Development Center for Next Generation Networks, Grids and Portals.

POZMAN network bases on own fiber cables infrastructure (under 200 km) and uses two technologies: ATM 622 Mb/s and Gigabit Ethernet.

PSNC owns supercomputers of all types of computing architectures: scalar (SGI Origin 3800, SUN SunFire 6800), vector ( CRAY SV1, CRAY J90) and MPP (CRAY T3E, IBM SP-2).

PSNC participates in several IST projects which are connected with networking (like 6NET, Atrium and previously Sequin) and grids (GridLab and CrossGrid) as well as several national research projects supported by the Polish State Committee for Scientific Research.

PSNC was founded at the end of 1993 by the State Committee for Scientific Research.

This POP is available to users who are already using PIONIER national network for academic or research purposes.
