Newspost 2.1.1 IPv6 Patch
Shadow Hawkins on Monday, 21 June 2004 14:20:38
Greetings,
I have rewritten the socket interface code in newspost to use the more portable getaddrinfo() rather than gethostbyname().
The rewritten version allows the use of both IPv4/IPv6 addresses in both numerical form (i.e. 2001:7b8:35e:0:20a:e4ff:fe4f:8f6d) and FQDN form (news.example.com) to be passed into it.
This patch has been tested on Solaris 9 and Fedora Core 1 using both IPv4 and IPv6-enabled NNTP servers with no ill effects observed on either platform.
I have submitted this patch to the newspost maintainer but provide a link to it here for other SixXS users who use newspost but want to connect to an IPv6 NNTP server instead of using a 'legacy' IPv4 one!
