OT: odd ipv4-addresses failing
Shadow Hawkins on Wednesday, 13 November 2013 06:38:39
Sorry for OT.
We have gotten a /28 routed to us.
From one location outside (my home) the EVEN ip-adresses can be fpinged.
(fping -g 11.22.33.44/28)
From another location (another guys home) the ODD adresses can be fpinged
Setup is
fibre---ISP's router--switch--our router--switch--/28 machines.
The machines are clones, firewall in our router open.
Some clecer guys here have a clue?
OT: odd ipv4-addresses failing

Solved.
Our ISP had left an old route to our new /28.
So half the packets got routed to us, half some other way.
I guess the choice of which route to take is decided on by a sum of destination, source, portnumber etc, since the choice were consistent, one source could get to odd adresses, another to even adresses.
Sorry for bothering this list, now I can start regrowing my hair :-)
