AVM Fritz!Box 7240 and IPv6
[de] Shadow Hawkins on Thursday, 27 August 2009 07:35:01
There is a Lab Firmware for the Fritz!Box 7270. But it's not available for the Fritz!Box 7240 which ist basically the same one with some phone features less. Does anyone know, how I can use it with IPv6?

Hi Julian, as far as I know there is no way to run the 7240 with the 7270 firmware by standard. If you're ready to "experiment" a bit though, you could try "Freetz". "Freetz" is derived from the "DS"-Mod for Fritz-Boxes (and some other WLAN-Routers like the Speedport W 700 V shipped by the German Telekom) which has a positive history for Fritz-Box Modifications. I recommend that you read up on this in the "WeHaveMoreFun - Wiki Entry on the Fritz-Boxes before you start with anything. Preconditions for using "Freetz" are a bit on the "heavy side", please check before you start there: - you need either a real or virtual Linux instance - you need to be able to handle a Package installer (under Linux) - you will eventually have to build your own Router image with the supplied tools - you will be out of support by AVM after you put your modification onto your box - in case of problems you might have to restore/recover your router with the AVM-recovery tools (unlikely but possible) The good part about this is: - 98-99% of the mod'ed firmwares work flawlessly and can even contain additional functionalities (provided by the great team that wrote and progresses "Freetz"). - Afterwards you'll have IPv6 on your router! - You will learn alot about Linux and your router Please share your experience here, if you dare to "boldly go..." :-) Greetings, Michael PS: If you have any questions or need help setting up your Linux, first read on the "WeHaveMoreFun" forums and if there's no matching info there, drop an answer to this topic here and I'll try to help out.

I know Freetz but as there is the IPv6 Lab Firmware for the 7270 why shouldn't there one for the 7240 because the Hardware ist the same apart from an ISDN-port and a antenna (I think these are the only two differences). I don't want to freetz my "best" Fritz!Box but maybe I'll setup up an old 5050 as IPv6 gateway.

Hi Julian, did you already try the "feedback"/"feature request" function in the detail-view of the acording firmware on the AVM "Labor" page (Even though there is no 7240/IPv6-fw, I'd send the request through the 7270/IPv6-fw)? I have sent feedback from there before and they're slow in their answers, but mostly they'll answer anyway (after 1-2 weeks). Greetings, Michael
