Aiccu on Windows 7

Hello, I tried to get my Sixx tunnel up on my newly installed Windows 7-64bit system. I followed the instructions on: http://www.sixxs.net/wiki/Configuring_Windows_Vista If I look at my information at the SixxS website I see my tunnel is a heartbeat type not an AYIYA type. And Im behind NAT. With the current settings it is working with my WinXP and Slackware system. Should I request to have my tunnel type changed to AYIYA? 1) OK 2) OK 3) OK 4) OK 5) Not sure, don't see a difference with the Tun/Tap32 tap901 adapter with ipconfig The following line is not working: tapinstall.exe remove tap0901 ROOT\NET\0000 Removed this interface via Contol Panal > Device Manager > Network Adaptes.. 6) OK 7) Used my WinXP config and also a minimal config as showed at: http://www.sixxs.net/wiki/Aiccu/Installing_on_Vista64 8) netsh interface ipv6 6to4 set state state=disabled netsh interface ipv6 isatap set state state=disabled netsh interface ipv6 set teredo disable Undo:netsh interface ipv6 6to4 set state state=enable netsh interface ipv6 isatap set state state=enable netsh interface ipv6 set teredo client netsh int ipv6 add address LAN-verbinding 2002:81a8:102:: Undo:netsh int ipv6 delete address LAN-verbinding 2002:81a8:102:: 9) nslookup -type=AAAA www.ipv6.sixxs.net OK 10) aiccu-2008-03-15-windows-console.exe start Step 10 results in the following output: sock_getline() : "200 SixXS TIC Service on noc.sixxs.net ready (http://www.sixxs.net)" sock_printf() : "client TIC/draft-00 AICCU/2008.03.15-console-win32 WinNT/6.1.7600" sock_getline() : "200 Client Identity accepted" sock_printf() : "get unixtime" sock_getline() : "200 1260908201" sock_printf() : "username xxxx-SIXXS" sock_getline() : "200 Choose your authentication challenge please" sock_printf() : "challenge md5" sock_getline() : "200 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" sock_printf() : "authenticate md5 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" sock_getline() : "200 Succesfully logged in using md5 as xxxx-SIXXS (xxx xxx) from 2001:960:800::2" sock_printf() : "tunnel show T10142" sock_getline() : "201 Showing tunnel information for T10142" sock_getline() : "TunnelId: T10142" sock_getline() : "Type: 6in4-heartbeat" sock_getline() : "IPv6 Endpoint: 2001:610:600:320::2" sock_getline() : "IPv6 POP: 2001:610:600:320::1" sock_getline() : "IPv6 PrefixLength: 64" sock_getline() : "Tunnel MTU: 1280" sock_getline() : "Tunnel Name: My First Tunnel" sock_getline() : "POP Id: nlams05" sock_getline() : "IPv4 Endpoint: heartbeat" sock_getline() : "IPv4 POP: 192.87.102.107" sock_getline() : "UserState: enabled" sock_getline() : "AdminState: enabled" sock_getline() : "Password: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" sock_getline() : "Heartbeat_Interval: 60" sock_getline() : "202 Done" Succesfully retrieved tunnel information for T10142 sock_printf() : "QUIT We will be the only two people left in the world, Yes--Adam and Evil!" If I look at my information at the SixxS website I see my tunnel is a
heartbeat type not an AYIYA type. And Im behind NAT.
Then most likely something will not work unless you are lucky with your NAT box and that it forwards your traffic to the right internal IP.
With the current settings it is working with my WinXP and Slackware system.
How many hosts at the same time (or in a short timespam) are you trying to run the same tunnel on?
Should I request to have my tunnel type changed to AYIYA?
AYIYA theoretically always works, unless it is not setup correctly or a firewall is blocking it specifically.
5) Not sure, don't see a difference with the Tun/Tap32 tap901 adapter with ipconfig
Logical, as a heartbeat tunnel does not use Tun/Tap.

Jeroen, Thanks for your reply. I was only using one host at the time so far, and that worked well. I understand that it is possible to request a bigger subnet so it is possible to use both systems at the same time. I probably will try that after I have sorted out this issue with Win7. So I should request to have my tunnel type changed to AYIYA. Regards,

Yes, it is working now. I indeed needed to change the tunnel type to Ayiya. This is something you can do yourself via https://www.sixxs.net/home/ > select link to tunnel details. Changing tunnel details cost you 15 ISK's. The Aiccu output now ends with: : : : Flag: HAS_IFHEAD not present Flag: NEED_IFHEAD not present [warning] Error opening registry key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\Properties (t1) Renaming adapter 'LAN-verbinding 2' to 'sixxs' and using it [tun-start] Trying \\.\Global\{ED28E701-0C95-435E-ABC1-91AA7F3AEE69}.tap Flag: HAS_IFHEAD not present Flag: NEED_IFHEAD not present [AYIYA-start] : Anything in Anything (draft-02) [AYIYA-tun->tundev] : (Socket to TUN) started and the interface changed to: Ethernet adapter sixxs: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : TAP-Win32 Adapter V9 Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-FF-ED-28-E7-01 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IPv6 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 2001:610:600:320::2(Preferred) Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::e195:90a0:3ed9:bf42%14(Preferred) IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.88(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 : : : Thanks,

Just some feedback which may help others with Windows7 installs ... I had trouble using addtap.bat on my Windows7 machine. I kept getting a "failed" error message and the adapter never showed up under ipconfig (I think I followed all instructions). I then went to the OpenVPN web site (www.openvpn.net) and downloaded the OpenVPN 2.1.4 Windows Installer. As part of the installation you can select what features you want to install and I only selected the TAP virtual tunnel driver (deselected the rest). Once the installation was complete, everything worked as described in the Wiki installation guide for Vista.
