Managing Network Equipment with IPv6 and autoconfiguration

Does anyone have experience with using IPv6 auto-configuration on Cisco gear? I am considering this option verses a static assignment but would like some feedback from someone who has tried it. bej

What type of "IPv6 Auto configuration" do you mean?
In most cases you don't want any kind of auto configuration on your network gear. Depending on the size of your network, what one tends to do at one point (when you don't want to ssh/telnet into all the devices anymore ;) is create a repository with configurations (which are auto generated) and push configurations from a central location.
RANCID comes to mind.
Of course it all depends on what you want to accomplish and in the end most people tend to write their own management systems which are integrated with their customer backend.

Turning on IPV6 autoconfiguration on our Cisco gear will allow it to get an IPv6 address in the vlan/subnet of the device's configured native vlan. I'm thinking we had rather these be static for polling and network management purposes. Thanks for your reply.

And then some miscreant comes into your network and suddenly your network is reconfigured. There are a lot of reasons why it is not a good idea.
Then again, from the perspective of 'layman home user setup' all these techniques can be nice, but still also provide quite some vulnerable points.
