Choice of Tunnel Client for XP setup behind a NAT with dynamic public ip
[hk] Shadow Hawkins on Monday, 12 April 2010 10:38:15
I am a new comer. Most of you having facing problems on setting up IPv6 tunnel behind a NAT with dynamic IP. My config is XP SP3 with firewall enabled -- Linksys WRT54G v7 -- ISP Which is better AICCU or AYIYA to setup the tunnel? How heartbeat is integrated into them? How to tackle the support problem on Proto-41 on the router? Which ip private or public one should be deployed at the end point XP? How to get the ipv6 tunnel thought XP firewall? Sorry a lot of questions...

Which is better AICCU or AYIYA to setup the tunnel?
AICCU is the tool. AYIYA is the protocol.
How heartbeat is integrated into them?
For proto-41/heartbeat it is a separate UDP packet. In AYIYA it is integrated into the protocol.
How to tackle the support problem on Proto-41 on the router?
With AYIYA you don't have to. If you want to use proto-41, you have the option of configuring the device in DMZ mode.
Which ip private or public one should be deployed at the end point XP?
The IP address that the host has, most likely what you mean the 'private' one.
How to get the ipv6 tunnel thought XP firewall?
It generally does not block it, depends on your settings of course.

AICCU is good to have both console and gui modes. Do we need to install the newsest version 2.1.1 for tap driver and is it a must? Almost all router and firewall have ICMP and most ports be disabled in defaults. Any idea which we should be openned for the tunnel, heartbeat and proto-41 passing through? I heard even some Anti-Virus programs would cause trouble too, right? I have checked my machine networking, Teredo, 6to4 and automatic tunneling had been enabled in default after applying ipv6. Can SixXS tunnel coexists in the same endpoint with these default tunnels and others such as HE and gogoNet?

Most likely a smart idea as the great OpenVPN folks tend to fix bugs all the time. If you want to use the GUI version of AICCU though you'll need the older TAP driver.

Only silly people configure their firewalls like that as it only breaks things.

If you have such a strict firewall, why bother with IPv6 which gives you full end to end connectivity? See the FAQ btw for the answer of your question.

There are various AV programs which do not understand what IPv6 is and will block it without any warning whatsoever. Things are improving though. The generic answer: Use the built-in Windows firewall + install Microsoft Security Essentials.
I have checked my machine networking, Teredo, 6to4 and automatic tunneling
had been enabled in default after applying ipv6.

If you can figure out how to properly route packets that way most likely you can. Generally it is a really really really bad idea though.
