Strange Router Adv. Problem
[de] Shadow Hawkins on Sunday, 27 June 2010 15:16:11
Hi, I am using radvd on my tunnel endpoint. Autconf worked until yesterday. radvdump show RAs on the router but they do not reach the other machines in the network. Routing works fine with manualy configured addresses.

That could be because amongst others: - Multicast issues - No local IP address (out of the prefix) on the RA server's interface - Using a /48 instead of /64
Routing works fine with manualy configured addresses.
Can you run a wireshark or tcpdump on one of the clients? Then you at least know that you are receiving the RA's there or not.

it seems to be a kind of ICMP or multicast problem. even unicast packets for link-local addresses don't arrive. But this might be due to a failing neighbour solicitation. fe80::x:xxff:fexx:x dev eth0 FAILED echo requests from another machine arrive at the router. But no answer is shown by tshark (on the router). No RA's reach the clients (win xp, win vista, linux 2.6, android) But i have no clue how to debug 'multicast issues'. All I know is that, there is no routing daemon running on that machine.

You can always try to enable multicast on the interface, eg: ip link set eth0 allmulticast on Or heck, if that does not work, try: ip link set eth0 promisc on The best thing you can look at though is the device that is your 'switch', as that is breaking things here. What model is is?
Layer 2 Problem solved

I am using a Siemens Amazon based device as a Layer 2 bridge. http://wiki.gpl-devices.org/wiki/Sphairon_Turbolink_IAD It is property of my ISP and I have only very limited access to it. (: A simple power cycle on it, did the trick ;) Thanks for your help.
