Hi everyone! sad to say, so far I got no reply from the SixxS staff, why I'm now posting here. I started of with IPv6 years ago but got lost on the quest to overcome the now gone NAT problem. I now returned to the testbed and ended up with -29 ISK... But I don't want to complain here, as I already did via eMail to the staff. My problem is as follows: To get back some ISKs I added aiccu on a VM on my dedicated server box with public IP. All things fine, the tunnel works great for 3 weeks now. Ping and aiccu test do work like a charm. But... the statistics on the website to tell me different! I have an avg lost of 98% over two weeks. 100% for the last week. Now I can't seem to find anything wrong. Again, aiccu test works good. IPtables is setup and I think it could be stopping the heartbeat. But I was not able to find out which port is used for/by heartbeat to open or allow in a specific rule. Any hint? Anyone?

Try
iptables -I INPUT -p 41 -j ACCEPT
, it addresses the most plausible explanation that 2% of the pings went through. If this doesnt work, youll need to provide more information (tunnel type, output of
iptables -L
and
ip6tables -L
, ). In case you do output filtering, heartbeat is on port 3740.

What about reading the FAQ, which answers all the questions you have? Note also that the contact page mentions that info@sixxs.net is not a helpdesk.

Thanks for your input Ulrich! As you mentioned iptables (not ip6tables) first, I took a look at my setup. I now have added protocol 41 to the INPUT chain and it at least seems that the stats are coming down. Also I now allow pings on incoming v4 and v6. The outgoing traffic is not limited, but still thanks for mentioning the port number. I could not find this anywhere (even the FAQ). I will check back my statistics and see what happens.

Jeroen, I did not contact Sixxs staff about my issues with the tunnel. I contacted info@sixxs about getting back some ISK. This is mentioned in the FAQ several times. Why do I need to get some ISK? I want to play with IPv6 at home. My router now is a Fritzbox which supports aiccu. I had to change my years-old tunnel settings but could not get it to work without a subnet (seems Fritzbox limitation). I ended up with -29 ISK. As Sixxs did not reply to add up some ISKs, I found my own 'temporary' solution: use my public server and let it run to get ISKs for subnet and then switch to the home router. There are several posts about Fritzbox with Sixxs, and they all share the same issue that it takes weeks/month to earn enough ISKs to start using the setup. My workaround might not be perfect, but to me it seems to be the only possible way to get a subnet for my home network. I perhaps then can also add another fixed tunnel for my public server, as soon as I have enough ISKs. btw: I don't want to sound offensive here! It's great that you provide a service like this free of charge et all. It's just very limiting when you test and therefore reset a tunnel and instantly loose ISKs. So yes, always think first and look at every possible documentation and then change settings to have it right the first time. thanks! Philon

The credit FAQ gives several ways to avoid this. Note that everybody who has multiple devices in their network runs into this issue, not only Fritz!Box users. All users are treated the same: gain more credits, then get a subnet. Note also that a Fritz!Box does not 'support aiccu', AVM have implemented their own TIC and heartbeat client.

Jeroen, thanks for your clarification. My 'temporary tunnel' is now running and statistics show good pings. When I have reached enough credits I will request a subnet. After that I will wait some more weeks and change the tunnel type to something usable with the Fritzbox. If my calculations are correct, I will get IPv6 running on my home router in 8 weeks. This means running the tunnel on my server, earning credits, then add subnet, then switch tunnel type... Talking about tunnel type... Fritzbox uses AYIYA right? Just that I don't set it wrong twice.

Or you could read the FAQ about credits.
