[de] Shadow Hawkins on Sunday, 28 August 2005 20:09:25
Hi guys , i have a strange problem since some days , i am not sure maybe i changed something but i cant remember. :) I cant visit anymore websites via Ipv6 doesnt matter which website i try for example: www.sixxs.net , hsa247.com and so on. The connection will always be established by v4. But i can ping6 / tracert6 all sites without loss / timeouts. OS: XP SP2 , IE6 any ideas? Greets Markus

Try to browse www6.reik0.info . It's my website that will reply your ipv6 address! If the page show your ipv6 all it's ok! If you get something like "host not found" there is a configuration problem on your box!

Check Proxy settings. These may include virusscanning tools on your system which may act as a proxy without you knowing it.

Download Ethereal and run it to see if you actually have any traffic relevant traffic, that is DNS for AAAA lookups + connection attempts over IPv6. Check also if you can do traceroute6 to the destination and of course you can try a simple telnet. Also see the "Reporting Problems" section on the Contact page for a larger list of things you can try. Note that you can use www.ipv6.sixxs.net to force IPv6, as that only has a AAAA DNS RR.

Hi Jeroen , itôs no problem to traceroute6 the destination, i also can be tracerouted(6) from the outside world. The routing is fine no problems at all. I can ping and trace the host and its resolved fine in the Windows console ( my test webserver is only 1 hop away ) :) If i try to call a IpV6 only website with the explorer it only says page not found. So i think its just something wired with my IE and hoped anyone has a solution or a good hint where i can take a look at.# Greets Markus btw i installed ethereal i can see that DNS AAAA Questions and they are resovled fine but still IE wont connect with Ipv6.

I had the exact same problem. Ping, traceroute, telnet ... everything worked using Ipv6, even if both Ipv6 and Ipv4 addresses existed. Except for IE6, which wouldn't connect to any Ipv6 only site, and would use Ipv4 if the host had both addresses. I couldn't believe that it could be caused by McAfee Virusscan (as suggested by someone). But eventually I disabled it -> still no go. As a last, desperate resort I _uninstalled_ Virusscan and: yes ! Everything is now in order. I still cannot believe how a _disabled_ virusscan can interfere with IE6 connectivity without interfering with other Ipv6 enabled programs, but it does. *Uninstall* it.
