assigning prefix to freebsd router
[sk] Carmen Sandiego on Friday, 24 December 2010 22:18:22
My router automatically obtains its tunnel endpoint address and default routes via the AICCU client. However, it is not made aware of the subnet/prefix assigned to me. I followed the subnet setup instructions for my OS in the FAQ section, but even if I advertise the prefix, that won't help because the router doesn't have a route for it. What are the necessary steps to get the subnet working? I would like to avoid hardwiring addresses if possible. And even if I have to, what would be the most suitable way of doing this?

Easy way is just to add a route that encompasses your /48 Dump it in /etc/rc.local and it'll run on startup

I added an address from the subnet I wanted to advertise to the LAN interface via rc.conf's ifconfig_fxp0_alias0="...". It seems this is enough to get rtadvd to advertise the subnet. It's a one line change, so if sixxs itself won't notify my endpoint about the subnet via router advertisements, then this is good enough.

I've never seen it work that way (I always used radvd.conf) but if works for you, great
