Time Capsule / MacBook. Traceroute and Ping working, but no web access.

Hi, I'm experiencing a problem with my static tunnel and subnet. I've configured my tunnel and subnet on my Time Capsule and everything seems to be configured correctly: The tunnel is up and the TC hands out IPv6 from the allocated subnet to hosts on the network. From the commandline in OS X I can resolve, ping6 and traceroute6 ipv6.google.com, but when I try to access it from any browser it just times out... I've tried Safari, Webkit, Firefox and Opera. Snowwhite:~ maaboe$ host ipv6.google.com ipv6.google.com is an alias for ipv6.l.google.com. ipv6.l.google.com has IPv6 address 2a00:1450:8004::6a Snowwhite:~ maaboe$ ping6 -c 5 ipv6.google.com PING6(56=40+8+8 bytes) 2a02:980:1009::21e:52ff:fe7d:bd85 --> 2a00:1450:8004::6a 16 bytes from 2a00:1450:8004::6a, icmp_seq=0 hlim=53 time=63.893 ms 16 bytes from 2a00:1450:8004::6a, icmp_seq=1 hlim=53 time=65.212 ms 16 bytes from 2a00:1450:8004::6a, icmp_seq=2 hlim=53 time=65.302 ms 16 bytes from 2a00:1450:8004::6a, icmp_seq=3 hlim=53 time=64.035 ms 16 bytes from 2a00:1450:8004::6a, icmp_seq=4 hlim=53 time=64.227 ms --- ipv6.l.google.com ping6 statistics --- 5 packets transmitted, 5 packets received, 0.0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/std-dev = 63.893/64.534/65.302/0.601 ms Snowwhite:~ maaboe$ traceroute6 ipv6.google.com traceroute6 to ipv6.l.google.com (2a00:1450:8004::6a) from 2a02:980:1009::21e:52ff:fe7d:bd85, 64 hops max, 12 byte packets 1 2a02:980:1009::6233:4bff:fe2e:326b 0.991 ms 0.855 ms 0.791 ms 2 2a02:980:1000:12::1 24.718 ms 26.509 ms 24.984 ms 3 2a02:980:1:1::1 27.021 ms 24.851 ms 25.525 ms 4 2a02:980:0:4::2 28.134 ms 29.086 ms 38.977 ms 5 2a02:980:0:5::2 30.861 ms 29.664 ms 37.105 ms 6 2001:6c8:81:100::1d 30.412 ms 29.300 ms 38.737 ms 7 * * * 8 * * * 9 2001:4860::1:0:ced 43.599 ms 2001:4860::1:0:e35 47.738 ms 42.619 ms 10 2001:4860::1:0:60d 72.369 ms 72.300 ms 61.370 ms 11 2001:4860::2:0:6e0 65.936 ms 71.276 ms 63.110 ms 12 2001:4860:0:1::9d 70.452 ms 2001:4860:0:1::9b 62.820 ms 2001:4860:0:1::9d 76.008 ms 13 2a00:1450:8004::6a 72.724 ms 73.091 ms 61.127 ms Snowwhite:~ maaboe$ ifconfig en1 en1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 ether 00:1e:52:7d:bd:85 inet6 fe80::21e:52ff:fe7d:bd85%en1 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x5 inet 192.168.1.3 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.1.255 inet6 2a02:980:1009::21e:52ff:fe7d:bd85 prefixlen 64 autoconf media: autoselect status: active I've also tried using the SixXS traceroute-tool to do a reverse traceroute from noc.sixxs.net and it works just fine: IPv6 traceroute IPv6 traceroute from noc.sixxs.net @ SixXS NOC, AS12871 to 2a02:980:1009::21e:52ff:fe7d:bd85 : Hop Node Loss% Sent Last Avg Best Worst StDev ASN Organisation 1. 2001:838:1:1::1 0.0% 5 0.4 0.4 0.4 0.4 0.0 2. 2001:838:5:a::1 0.0% 5 2.0 2.0 1.9 2.0 0.1 3. 2001:7f8:1::a500:6939:1 0.0% 5 2.0 2.0 1.9 2.0 0.1 4. 2001:7f8:1::a500:3292:1 0.0% 5 2.4 3.1 2.2 6.3 1.8 5. 2001:6c8:40::10 0.0% 5 41.2 51.5 41.1 82.5 17.9 6. 2001:6c8:81:100::1e 0.0% 5 42.0 41.3 40.9 42.0 0.5 7. 2a02:980:0:5::1 0.0% 5 42.1 42.4 42.1 42.8 0.3 8. 2a02:980:0:4::1 0.0% 5 48.6 46.3 45.6 48.6 1.3 9. 2a02:980:1:1::2 0.0% 5 46.1 46.8 45.7 48.7 1.3 10. 2a02:980:1000:12::2 0.0% 5 79.7 72.6 70.2 79.7 4.0 11. 2a02:980:1009:0:21e:52ff:fe7 0.0% 5 76.1 74.8 70.6 78.3 3.3 I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced the same on OSX, or if anyone has an idea as to what I'm doing wrong. I also tried to telnet ipv6.google.com:80 but no luck.. Snowwhite:~ maaboe$ telnet ipv6.google.com 80 Trying 2a00:1450:8004::63... telnet: connect to address 2a00:1450:8004::63: Operation timed out telnet: Unable to connect to remote host

Might be just a coincidence, but you are the second guy from Denmark with 2a02:980: address space, who is today complaining that although ICMP traffic works (ping, traceroute, etc.) the normal traffic does not work. Makes me wonder if there is something strange with that PoP... The other thread is https://www.sixxs.net/forum/?msg=setup-3281305 Ps. Even I can ping your host at 2a02:980:1009::21e:52ff:fe7d:bd85, so your tunnel seems to work to some extent.

Thanks. I browsed the forum before posting, but wasn't aware of that particular post. I've opened a ticket. Hopefully someone with more insight is able to clear this up.

You should confirm you are using the latest firmware. I just switched from a Linksys WRT54GS to my Airport Extreme for my main router and can confirm that the latest 7.5.2 firmware now works with a SIXXS tunnel. I followed the wiki entry to setup my firewall rule. Regards, SMF

Looks like my guess about a PoP-related problem was correct, as the guy from Fullrate has today admitted in the Ticket thread that the problem was in their upstream connectivity: "too aggressive peering filter". Hopefully it works now for you. https://www.sixxs.net/tickets/?msg=tickets-3286513

It solved the problem. Just moved back from HE to SixXS and the tunnel works just fine.
