DSL device recommendation

Hi, Is anyone using a combination DSL modem and firewall that supports AICCU or static tunnel out of the box? If not, are there any devices flashable with another firmware? I'm looking to reduce the number of power supplies used in my current deployment (Cisco 678, a 5 port switch, and a Soekris box running m0n0wall) but I'm beginning to think that's going to be it for a while until the U.S. vendors start selling gear that's already IPv6 enabled. I'm thinking that a Cisco 800 series router with ADSL2 might be my only option. -Gary

The fritzbox supports this, however I doubt they are obtainable in the US, furthermore, the fritzbox lacks the ability to add static IPv6 routes, resulting in only one subnet out of a /48 being routable, which is a waste of 65K subnets ! It looks that the best way to go is buy a router that supports openwrt or dd-wrt and use that to provide good IPv6 support.

See The Wiki for a couple of them.

I believe that anything that can be flashed with OpenWRT, DD-WRT, or Tomato will support AICCU.

Correct, but there are some exceptions: the models with limited amount of flash space so that a kernel with IPv6 & tun support + ip + AICCU won't fit. Fortunately AICCU is pretty small thus that is not the show stopper.

A pretty decent router for openwrt and dd-wrt (never used tomato, so I don't know about that one), is the Asus WL500G Premium, which has 32mb of flash and a USB port, so you can use external storage. I have this modem somewhere in a closest, and thinking of putting it back into business instead of the Fritzbox 7340 which I recently got from my DSL provider.

The FRITZ!Box, the Cisco 83X, and Cisco 87X are the only SOHO class devices listed on the wiki that support ADSL. The rest are all router/firewalls. The FRITZ!Box Fon 5124 looks the closest to what I have in mind but they might be more expensive for me to source than the Cisco gear. It's alleged that Actiontec makes some IPv6 ADSL gear but I've not yet found that to be true. kind regards, Gary

Yeah, For the time being I would not advise anyone to use fritzbox. Yes they work good if you plan to use just one subnet, if you want to use additional subnets, you are pretty much left in the dark. I was actually able to add static routes to the box using telnet, but haven't figured out how to add firewall rules to the built in firewall using full IPv6 addresses, instead of just the host part. Some of these fritzbox routers can be made to run freetz, which is alternative firmware, which removes these restrictions.
