icmpv6 ping secondary router interface not working
[cz] Shadow Hawkins on Tuesday, 22 November 2011 23:27:37
I'm trying to learn some more about ipv6 routing, so I've taken the assigned subnet /48 and apart from the PREFIX::/64 advertised with radvd, I've taken another two networks with PREFIX:1::/64 and PREFIX:2::/64. I have three routers in chain, first one being openwrt with aiccu and radvd and then two chained virtual machines with vyatta and ipv6-only manually assigned addresses. All is working, can get to www.kame.net via dns and ipv6, I just don't understand why can't I ping the secondary interface of the vyatta routers? meaning: from native ipv6 site ping to PREFIX::2/64 works, but not to PREFIX:1::1/64. same goes for the vyatta vm2 - can ping PREFIX:1::2/64 from the internet, but not the PREFIX:2::1/64. if I'm sitting at VM2, I can successfully ping both PREFIX:1::1/64 (ip on VM1) and PREFIX:1::2/64. is this a feature of ipv6 or am I missing something? I don't remember seeing this with ipv4. I would like to understand this, but so far I wasn't able to google anything useful. poor man's ascii art (internet) ----- [ wan/aiccu OPENWRT PREFIX::1/64 ]----[ PREFIX::2/64 VYATTA VM1 PREFIX:1::1/64]--- [PREFIX:1::2/64 - VYATTA VM2 - PREFIX:2::1/64] Thank you, Jan

Should work if properly configured. Address and routing tables on the hosts involved and a traceroute would be useful here to determine where it might go wrong. And don't forget to check firewalling.
