tcpdump sees pings but marked as down
[at] Shadow Hawkins on Friday, 02 November 2007 10:20:42
Hi, today I received a mail informing about a tunnel downtime. I think it's an error as I did test a lot but I wanted to ask before annoying the staff if it was my fault. * Pinging the PoP works. * Running "tcpdump -i sixxs -vv" and waiting shows me the ICMP requests and answers to the PoP. * There are no other ipv6 routes (as I don't have a subnet yet) than the ones created from aiccu, so default is the PoP, routes to 2001::/64, fe.../64 exist but existed the last days, too and should not be a problem. * The graphs on the tunnel details page don't show a downtime of two days as mentioned in the mail. There are only downtimes around six in the morning which I don't understand because the connection seems to be ok, nobody is disconnected from the ircd (ipv4 only but it's the only "test" of my connection last night). Ok, so I think I did everything in the FAQ mentioned (ping, tcpdump, checking routes,..), any other ideas or is it really not my fault and I should contact sixxs? Thanks in advance, Jakob

Your latency graph shows clear gaps, it has to ping 24/7 not once a day.

Ok, thanx. Are there any ways of finding the problem? I have no ideas as the ipv4 connections seem to be stable 24/7. I'll read the FAQ about heartbeat again, maybe changing tunnel type is the best solution.

See the "Connection Tracking" entry in the FAQ, that most likely will fix your problems.
