Tunnel over 2 IPv4 links
[de] Shadow Hawkins on Saturday, 28 January 2012 15:52:55
I currently have a subnet connected via a tunnel to a POP at my ISP. (my ISP is nice enough to run a POP) I have a consumer DSL-line with one IPv4 address which probably does source address filtering. I am considering to get a second DSL-line so I'll have more bandwidth. Can I split up the tunnel to the POP into 2 tunnels each one running from its own IPv4 address, so I can bond them together and get one IPv6 subnet?

Multiple source IPv4 addresses is not supported. A tunnel goes from 1 IP address to another. And it will be hard to do proper loadbalancing or even failover over two links when you do not have cooperation from the remote side. (Yes, it might work for short-lived connections, but anything long-living will not work) In the end you will effectively want to do a VPN-kind of setup to a remote side which supports a VPN (actually just a form of tunnel, or also the other way around) with multiple IP addresses.
