Routed IPv6 subnet for OpenVPN tunnel
[fi] Shadow Hawkins on Friday, 17 August 2012 08:06:43
Hello, I have a tunnel from SixXS and a /64 routed subnet at the moment. I also have an OpenVPN server using TAP on the router where the SixXS tunnel terminates. I have set up the OpenVPN TAP adapter to use a private range IPv6 prefix (fd00::/8 range) because I wasn't sure if I could somehow split my routed /64 for the VPN adapter. If I wanted to have a real routed IPv6 subnet for the TAP VPN adapter, is getting an additional /48 subnet the only way to get it working? Kimmo Paasiala

I should add that I have tried server bridging. It works well for IPv4 but fails for IPv6 somehow, I guess it has something to do with the default gateway being a link local address and interface bridging.

Likely NDProxy is failing for the setup you are doing. As you can get a full /48 you do not have to do any of that kind of stuff.

Thank you for the explanation, I'll apply for a /48 as soon as I can :) -Kimmo

You would need to get a /48 and then you can route as many /64's out of that /48 to other clients. But, another way is to just request another tunnel for the other location.
