More trouble on Vista 32
[de] Shadow Hawkins on Tuesday, 11 November 2008 18:31:38
Hello, i am trying to set up an aiccu configured tunnel on Vista 32. Steps so far: - installed tuntap 901 - renamed interface to sixxs - created conf file with username and password - aiccu start (console version) - ping -6 ipv6.google.com The hostname gets resolved, but no pings. The output of aiccu autotest is:

It's the firewall. It's Network Threat Protection by Symantec. But i have problems configuring it right.

Please contact Symantec and yell hard at them that they should fix their product to support IPv6 properly. Easy way out: de-install it completely.

I have the same problem, but with probably a very different cause. AICCU connects, network manager "acquires address", everything seems to be working. ping6 and tracert6 resolves DNS but cannot find hosts. It's on a Windows XP, SP3, TAP version 801, no Symantec, on a NAT'ed company network. C:\Documents and Settings\esimioni>tracert6 ipv6.google.com Tracing route to ipv6.l.google.com [2001:4860:0:1001::68] from 2001:1418:100:2af::2 over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 * * * Request timed out. 2 * * * Request timed out. 3 * * * Request timed out. 4 * * * Request timed out. 5 * ^C C:\Documents and Settings\esimioni>ping6 ipv6.google.com Pinging ipv6.l.google.com [2001:4860:0:1001::68] from 2001:1418:100:2af::2 with 32 bytes of data: Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out. Ping statistics for 2001:4860:0:1001::68: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss), C:\Documents and Settings\esimioni>ping6 tunnel::2 Bad IPv6 address tunnel::2. Antivirus used here is NOD32, but I don't know about the firewall. Port 3874 is surely open, requested it this week to be able to connect to tic server. On Wireshark, TAP-Win32 Adapter V8 gives IP 169.254.231.173 though. I don't know where else I can look at. Or neither what I should be looking for. Specific questions: . What kind of problem could Symantec be causing on the problem from original poster? . Does it changes anything if I install tap901 instead? (I've read on another thread AICCU does not work with version "9") . One question not related to this problem: can I use the same Sixxs account and tunnel with two different computers? ipv4 traceroute result, that might be of some use: C:\Documents and Settings\esimioni>tracert tic.sixxs.net Tracing route to tic.m.sixxs.net [213.204.193.2] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 10.0.10.10 2 <1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1 3 75 ms 73 ms 90 ms 213.205.24.14 4 136 ms 77 ms * 213.205.28.50 5 70 ms 123 ms 106 ms 213.205.56.109 6 99 ms 129 ms 114 ms 213.205.25.153 7 127 ms * 187 ms xe-0-0-0.par70.ip.tiscali.net [89.149.186.153] 8 157 ms 129 ms 147 ms kpn-eurorings-gw.ip.tiscali.net [213.200.85.238] 9 134 ms 149 ms 133 ms asd2-rou-1021.NL.eurorings.net [134.222.231.177] 10 129 ms 138 ms * asd2-rou-1001.NL.eurorings.net [134.222.224.22] 11 127 ms 98 ms 115 ms 134.222.97.166 12 91 ms 103 ms 101 ms ge-1-3-0.pe01.intx.network.scarlet.nl [213.204.226.130] 13 158 ms 128 ms 120 ms broker04.ams.nl.sixxs.net [213.204.193.2] Trace complete.

Why AICCU Windows console needs an aiccu.conf on C:\WINDOWS? It might be interesting if it came together with the exe on a zip at least. Anyway, I've got it from this ticket, and just added login and password. Then using test and autotest, both gives the same result: C:\Documents and Settings\esimioni>aiccu-2008-03-15-windows-console.exe autotest sock_getline() : "200 SixXS TIC Service on noc.sixxs.net ready (http://www.sixxs.net)" sock_printf() : "client TIC/draft-00 AICCU/2008.03.15-console-win32 WinNT/5.1.2600-SP3" sock_getline() : "200 Client Identity accepted" sock_printf() : "get unixtime" sock_getline() : "200 1227278443" sock_printf() : "username EAS2-SIXXS" sock_getline() : "200 Choose your authentication challenge please" sock_printf() : "challenge md5" sock_getline() : "200 03958d00028533f51b46edfe31c7d00c" sock_printf() : "authenticate md5 1f7bbef6b0bee3906af4d61edf150f87" sock_getline() : "200 Succesfully logged in using md5 as EAS2-SIXXS (Eduardo Augusto Simioni) from 2001:960:800::2" sock_printf() : "tunnel show T18094" sock_getline() : "201 Showing tunnel information for T18094" sock_getline() : "TunnelId: T18094" sock_getline() : "Type: ayiya" sock_getline() : "IPv6 Endpoint: 2001:1418:100:2af::2" sock_getline() : "IPv6 POP: 2001:1418:100:2af::1" sock_getline() : "IPv6 PrefixLength: 64" sock_getline() : "Tunnel MTU: 1280" sock_getline() : "Tunnel Name: My First Tunnel" sock_getline() : "POP Id: ittrn01" sock_getline() : "IPv4 Endpoint: ayiya" sock_getline() : "IPv4 POP: 213.254.12.34" sock_getline() : "UserState: enabled" sock_getline() : "AdminState: enabled" sock_getline() : "Password: *******" sock_getline() : "Heartbeat_Interval: 60" sock_getline() : "202 Done" Succesfully retrieved tunnel information for T18094 sock_printf() : "QUIT Tschau!" From all five cases listed here, which is the most probable one on this case?
All of them, because the output you give only shows that a tunnel is setup, not if any of the rest of your configuration makes sense, nor (as you mentioned having to request opening the TIC port) that your administrators are not dropping the packets sent using the AYIYA protocol which uses a different port. You will have to go through the whole "Reporting Problems" list for this. One quick thing to try: start -> run: netsh int ipv6 reset then reboot and try again.

You mean the Report Problems here on Sixxs? Or with my network manager? :) The second I'm already trying, though he's a bit busy this week. If the report problem here on Sixxs might help find the problem I will do it late this afternoon.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone provide a suitable replacement?

Microsofts Firewall which comes included with the OS. Indeed, that is far from a perfect solution, but it does properly do IPv6. For every other product, you will have to test this out.
