Problems reaching hosts beyond "IPv6 Remote/PoP Inner Tunnel Endpoint"
[us] Shadow Hawkins on Friday, 12 February 2010 09:45:28
Hello. I am writing to ask for help using the uschi02 PoP. My NIC is MFU1-SIXXS. My problem is that I can not reach any hosts beyond my "IPv6 Remote/PoP Inner Tunnel Endpoint" (2001:4978:f:23f::1). The first six steps of the self-test are normal, but I can not traceroute6 to noc.sixxs.net (step 7). Similarly, when I ping6 that address manually, I get "Destination unreachable: Address unreachable." ping6's to other well-known ipv6 hosts (such as ipv6.google.com) also fail. As always, I appreciate your service, and would be glad for any help. Thanks, Matthew Flaschen

Hello Matthew, that sounds like a missing default route. What OS/distribution/version are you running? Bernhard

No response from the user, I'm closing this ticket. For the record, there are a few Linux kernels out there that do not always process manually (=by aiccu) added default routes correctly. Most notable affected system are the distribution kernels of CentOS 5.0 to 5.2. You need to use 2000::/3 on these kernels.
